From energy logistics to baby logistics
When EnergyAustralia announced the closure of Yallourn in 2021, it was important to give the community and our workforce seven year’s notice so they could prepare.
In November 2022, we established our pioneering $10m Yallourn Transition Program, offering employees the chance to retrain and prepare for new opportunities post closure in June 2028.
Available to Yallourn workers, the program provides services to help plan, prepare, and upskill for the future, whether they are seeking new employment, considering retirement, or exploring self-employment.
Chantel in our Logistics Team is using the opportunity to retrain and recently completed her first year of a dual bachelor degree in nursing and midwifery. Over the course of the four-year degree, Chantel will follow ten women during their childbearing journey, from early pregnancy to the first few weeks after birth. In a happy coincidence, Chantel recently assisted in the birth experience of another Yallourn team member, Kate who welcomed a beautiful baby girl to her family.
“I love babies and since having my own kids and experiencing childbirth I love hearing peoples birthing stories. Nursing is a job that will give me employment into the future and allow me to work from anywhere,” Chantel shared about her decision to pursue this career.
“It has been tough at times studying whilst working, especially as a mature age student and supporting a family, but I have a team leader who is positive about my future and allows me to be flexible with my hours.”
Since the Program was launched in November 2022, we have seen employees act to prepare for their future with over 600 individual career coaching sessions taking place, nearly 350 individual transition plans developed, over 100 training activities initiated, 25 financial advice sessions provided and over 50 financial plans developed.
